Nutrient Sources and How to Get Them

Nutrients are very important for our overall healthy and the main reason for that is because they help our organism process things and deal with conditions better. This means that our diet has to be very healthy and the way in which we get our nutrients should be a good one.

However, due to the fact that people do not really know what and when to eat, they end up getting everything from the foods, except the nutrients they need the most.

What Nutrients Do We Need the Most?

It is a well-known fact that proper nutrition is the only key to a very healthy life. Therefore, eating vegetables, fruits and all the other healthy stuff is the only way to have a longer, healthier and happier life.

There are, however, some nutrients which are a lot better than others and these nutrients are:

  • Calcium – this can be gotten out of foods such as spinach, soybeans, juice, milk or yogurt, or any other type of dairy products. Calcium is essential if we want to have good teeth, strong bones and a proper activity of the nerves, muscle functions and glands.
  • Folic-acid – taken from lettuce, orange juice, spinach, beans and dried peas. Folic acid is extremely important for women, because it is vital for the period when they are trying to get pregnant.
  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids – taken from walnuts, salmon and kiwi fruits. Omega-3 fatty acids are important because they help prevent depression and they can do wonders in matters of memory and learning.
  • Vitamin A – taken from chili peppers, apricots, grapefruit, mango, carrots, spinach, sweet potatoes, tomatoes and watermelon. Vitamin A plays a very important role in keeping our eyes healthy and it also helps protecting the body from infections.
  • Vitamin C – taken from lemons, limes, tomatoes, watermelon, apricots, kiwi fruits, oranges, papaya, spinach, bell peppers and pine apples. Vitamin C helps with cuts or wounds and it also has a very important role in keeping our teeth and gums healthy for a longer period of time.
  • Magnesium – taken from artichoke hearts, almonds, lentils, red kidney beans and peanuts. Magnesium is important for our bodies because it feeds over 300 of the enzymes that make our bodies function the way it does.

How Can We Get Them?

The best way of getting the most important nutrients is by eating the foods that contain them. It is true that at times it can be impossible to get from food everything we need to be healthy, but there are other things we can do. For instance, we can always try taking supplements.

Although they should be taken only if prescribed by the doctor, it is not bad to take some from once in a while.

The most benefic supplements are those that you lack completely from your diet. Therefore, if you do not eat too much food containing calcium, you will have to take calcium supplements and so on.

In the end, it is important to have all your nutrients in your body, for a healthier, more good looking and younger body.
