For instance, a new study suggests that low levels of iron in the body may be the cause of blood clots.
Blood clots are extremely dangerous, as they can dislodge and they can go throughout out entire system and end up in the lungs, causing serious problems and even death. The main reasons for which these blood clots are forming are represented by major surgeries, cancer and even immobility, but there are also many other things that causes the blood to clot.
Study shows higher iron levels reduce blood clot risks
The researchers involved in this new study recruited 609 patients who were known for suffering of hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT). The HHT is known as a genetic disorder which causes the nose and the gut to bleed frequently. Given that these patients lose a lot of blood, they also have an iron deficiency, as the most iron they have in their bodies is lost through these frequent bleedings.
The researchers involved in the study mentioned that this sort of iron deficiency could lead to a disease called deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which can be fatal. However, what they discovered by making this new study was that people who had a high deficiency of iron were at higher risk of developing blood cuts, but those who were taking iron supplements did not have the same risks.
What the results of the study show is that the DVT can be prevented by people who have iron deficiency if they increase their iron levels.

Given that the main reason for which blood clots form is the lack of iron in the blood, the researchers along with a team of doctors recommend people to start doing something about increasing their iron levels. For instance, they can take iron supplements, which are not at all harmful and which help them increase their iron levels in a very short period of time.

There are many aliments which are rich in iron, but the most well known aliments which provides people with the quantity of iron they need to lead a healthy life is fish. Given that with old age everything starts to change, people who witness changes in their bodies should start doing something for themselves.
