In some of the cases, the reason for the fatigue is the fact that we do not get enough sleep, and we exhaust ourselves during the day. In these cases, it is normal to feel fatigued.
However, if you sleep 7 or 8 hours per night, and you still feel tired when you wake up, something else might cause you to be fatigued.
What Causes Fatigue?
According to the doctors, in most of the cases, fatigue is caused by a minor problem. However, there are cases when it is caused by a serious illness. There are various factors which could cause fatigue.
Anemia is one of them, and it is very common in the women who are in their reproductive years. When anemia occurs, and the organs and tissues do not receive the amount of oxygen they require, then fatigue takes place.
In order to find out if it is really anemia, a blood test will be required. In order to treat it, you will need to take iron supplements, and to consume foods rich in iron, such as red meat, broccoli, and spinach.
Another possible reason for the fatigue is hypothyroidism. The thyroid influences the metabolism, which is the speed at which the body functions. In many of the cases, this is the reason why so many women feel tired
According to the American Thyroid Foundation, by age 60, almost 20 percent of all women will have a thyroid problem without knowing it. In the case of hypothyroidism, the metabolism slows down.
Coffee, Sleep, and Fatigue
In some of the cases, trying to eliminate fatigue could actually make it worse. For example, drinking too much coffee, or drinks which contain caffeine, could make us feel even more tired.
Caffeine is a stimulant, but if too much of it is consumed, then side effects could take place, and one of the side effects is fatigue. It is okay to drink coffee, as it has various health benefits.
However, you should not go overboard with it, and you should limit the amount of cups you drink per day.
There are cases when sleep apnea causes fatigue. Sleep apnea causes you to stop breathing for a brief period of time when you sleep, and when that happens, your sleep cycle needs to start from the beginning.
People, who suffer of it, have no idea, and even if they believe that they had a good night sleep, they actually haven’t. It is important to reach the deep sleep phase, because that is when the mind and the body rest.
Sleep apnea prevents this from happening, and in that case, fatigue occurs.
