Anger is a very powerful emotion, which can be easily triggered by feelings such as disappointment, annoyance, frustration, and others. Anger is a normal emotion, and each person experiences it numerous times during our life. It can range from minor irritation to rage.
There are two types of people when it comes to expressing anger: the ones who express it, and the ones who suppress it.
Suppressed Anger is more Dangerous than Expressed Anger
Suppressed anger can be caused by depression or anxiety. It is a destructive type of anger, and it is much more dangerous than the ones which are expressed. Suppressed anger can ruin relationships, and it can cause various physical problems as well.
Headaches, skin disorders, high blood pressure, all of them can be caused by suppressed anger. Suppressed anger can also lead people to doing things; dangerous, insane things. It is a bad idea to suppress your anger, and luckily there are certain steps which can be taken in order to get rid of this negative emotion.
When you start feeling angry, you should take a deep breath, and eliminate your angry thoughts with the aid of positive self-talk. You should repeat the words “relax” until you feel calmer. As I already mentioned, it is better to express anger than it is to suppress it.
This does not mean that you should yell at everyone you meet outside, or to shout for any minor inconvenience. Repetitive outbursts of anger can be just as damaging to a relationship as the suppressed anger.
It is important to know the best way to express your anger. In case you have anger problems, you should talk to someone about them.
Anger? Talk to Someone, be Nice, and Express your Feelings
Talk to your friend, your family, talk to someone. It is also useful to keep track of the anger. Each time you experience this emotion, write it down. By doing so, you might be able to find a pattern, which could allow you to identify the things which make you angry.
You should try to lighten up. Laugh instead of becoming angry, and try to listen to people. You might be irritated by someone for no apparent reason. Try to listen to that person, as listening might make you feel less angry. It is important to know how to express your feelings.
Be calm when you do it, and talk nicely to people. In case you believe that the anger you experience cannot be controlled, you should seek the help of a professional.
There is no shame in that. It does not make you crazy or unstable. You are simply admitting that you have a problem, and that you want to solve the problem. In fact, you should be proud by the fact that you admitted the problem.
A psychologist will be able to help you develop some skills which will diminish or eliminate the anger from your life. It is very important to choose a psychologist who knows what he/she is doing, and to receive the proper treatment for your anger issues.
