Coping with Breast Pains

Many women experience breast pains at certain stages in their life. Usually, the pains occur in the days before the period, but in certain cases, the pain is not caused by the period. In the majority of the cases the pain is bearable, but there are also cases when the pain gets too intense, and in that case it can affect the quality of life.

There are various treatment options for women who experience breast pains. The most common treatment options are pain killers and various anti-inflammatory pills.

The Cyclical Breast Pain

There are two types of breast pains: cyclical pains which are related to periods, and noncyclical pains which aren’t related to periods. 70 percent of women develop breast pain in their life, and in 60 percent of the cases, the pain is cyclical. It is very important to keep track of the pains, in order to see if a pattern can be observed.

This type of pain usually appears between the ages of 30 and 50 years. The women who are in menopause no longer experience this type of breast pain. Usually, the pains are mild, and they appear a few days before period.

The severity of the pain can vary from month to month. In the majority of the cases both breasts are affected, but there are women who feel pain only in one breast. The breasts can also become lumpier than usual, but that should not alarm you, because it is something common.

Solving Breast Pains

What are Breast Pains

Certain activities such as sexual ones, or even running or hugging someone could be very painful.

The cyclical breast pains can be treated with the aid of painkillers, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It is very useful to wear a support bra during this period, because it eases the pain. You should start wearing it, 24 hours before the beginning of the period.

The Noncyclical Breast Pain

The other type of pain, the noncyclical one is not related to period, and it usually occurs in women over the age of 40. The pain does not have general symptoms, meaning that a woman can experience this type of pain in a different manner than another woman.

One could feel the pain in a certain spot of a breast, whereas another one could feel the pain radiating in both breasts. The cause of the pain is usually not clear. Medications such as Ibuprofen could ease the pain, but usually it goes away on its own after a few months.

Many of the women, who experience this pain, are afraid that they suffer of breast cancer. It is good to know that pain is not a main symptom of cancer, the lumps are.

Even so, if you feel concerned about the source of the pain, and even if you do not have a lump on your breast, you should go see a doctor, as it might make you feel better. You should see a doctor in case you have a family history of breast cancer, experience redness and swelling in breasts, and have symptoms of pregnancy, such as a missed period.
