There are various types of back pains, and it is important to know which kind of back pain you have. For example, some have disc hernia, others only a smaller injury of the disc. Some of the problems could lead to numbness in the leg; the symptoms and the solutions are different.
Identify the Source of your back pain
For example in case you hurt your back while lifting something heavy, you will need to lie down, in order to reduce the pressure. In case your back is locked from a stretch you performed, then you will need to be active.
Back problems might come from different actions, and it is important to identify these factors. As I said, many people have back problems because they have a sedentary life.
They might be forced to spend more than 8 hours in front of a computer, and when they get home, they watch TV, or do a similar activity.
It is important to move as much as possible. Even if you must work in front of a computer for 8 hours or so, you should find a compromise. For example, you should get out of your chair each hour, and move around for 5 minutes or so.
You could also do certain exercises in the chair, such as pulling your shoulder blades back and pushing your chin towards the ceiling.
Take Care of Your Back on a Constant Basis
It is very important to take care of your back. This means that certain exercises will most likely be required. You could do some pilates, or yoga for example. However, you should find the best exercise for you.
From my experience,e yoga is most suitable for the stronger people, and not everyone can do these exercises. In case you do not have enough strength, you should opt for pilates.
You could also go to a doctor, and do some physical therapy if required. It is very important to take care of the back on a daily basis. This means that you should re-learn certain activities.
You should stop bending from the back, and do it from the knees, you should keep a good posture when you walk and when you sit.
It is important to lengthen the spine as much as possible, because by doing so the muscles will be engaged on a constant basis.
Do stretching exercises each day, because if you do them, you will slow down the joint degeneration.
Try to take care of the back even when you are in bed. Do not sleep on your front, because the back will suffer.
If you sleep on a side, place a pillow between your knees. If you injure your back, place an ice pack on it, because it will reduce the symptoms, and it will ease the pain.
