Most of the popular diets such as Atkins and South Beach are best seller diet books. The Zone Diet is no exception to the rule. According toPhD. Barry Sears, the author of the book“Enter the Zone”, the Zone Dietwill make you feel full of energy and alert.
How Does the Zone Diet Work?
The Zone Diet apparently has the possibility of changing one’s metabolism, by using the 30/30/40 scheme; 30% protein, 30% fat, and 40% carbohydrates. It seems that the Zone Diet is excellent when it comes to preventing high blood pressure, heart diseases, diabetes, and other illnesses.
The book states that a diet rich in carbohydrates and poor in fat and protein, which many people nowadays consume, is not good for the health. This type of diet leads to weight gain, and can cause various illnesses.
The Zone Diet does not restrict calories; it only recommends certain types of foods instead of others. With the Zone Diet you need to consume a small amount of protein with each meal, carbohydrates, which should be twice the size of the portion of proteins.
These types of carbohydrates or the “good carbs” are made out of fruits, beans, lentils, whole grains. You can also consume a small size of “bad” carbohydrates, such as rice, pasta, cereal, banana, mango, papaya, and others. You can consume egg whites instead of regular eggs, and low-fat or no-fat milk and cheese.
The Zone Diet is higher in proteins and in fat than the other diets. It is similar to Atkins and the South Beach diet, as it does not recommend the consumption of certain carbohydrates such as pasta, rice, breads, potatoes, and so on.
Each person should determine the exact amount of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates he/she should consume, based on sex, size, age, physical activity, and other factors.
Does the Zone Diet Work?
With the Zone Diet one needs to combine protein, fats, and carbohydrates with each meal, under the previously mentioned ratio: 40-30-30. It seems that this is the ration for which our body was genetically programmed.
The author of the book states that the diet works, and that numerous people lost weight with its aid. There is not scientific proof to back up his claim, but even so, that does not necessarily mean that the Zone Diet is bad.
The Zone Diet requires you to be careful about what you put in the plate, the main purpose of the food you consume being to control the hormones from the body.
The nutrition experts have mixed opinions about the Zone Diet. Some consider it a fad diet which is doomed to fail, whereas others consider it effective and healthy.
The experts have agreed on the fact that the diet is easy to fail, and that the carbohydrates might have been reduced too much.
The Zone Diet is easy to follow, and its benefit is the fact that many foods are allowed.
However, there is no actual claim that the diet actually works as the author of Enter the Zone states.
